Doesn’t my personal auto policy cover my vehicle for business use?
Virtually every personal auto policy in America includes an exclusion for business use. For example, if you own a pickup truck and you’re plowing snow in the winter thinking you are covered with your personal auto policy, you may want to check with your agent. It is more likely than not that if you have a claim related to your plowing, the insurance company will deny it. You would need a commercial policy for that truck.
Not just for semis or dump trucks
Commercial auto policies are not just for industrial vehicles, such as semi-trailers or dump trucks. For example, businesses that use cars to run errands, drive to job sites or carry clients might also need a commercial auto policy. Don’t forget about your trailers, too! If you are using a trailer for business use, it is important that it’s covered through a commercial auto policy.
